How to Get a Copy of a Traffic Collision Report in Los Angeles
If you were involved in a traffic accident in Los Angeles, you may need to get a copy of the traffic collision report. Here's how:
Getting Reports Online
In most cases, you can request a copy of your report online. Just follow these steps:
- Wait at least 45 days after the accident to allow time for the report to be reviewed and approved for release
- Go to the online request site:
- Follow the instructions to look up and request your report
Note that you can't get reports online if the accident involved an arrest, fatality, or juvenile, or if it happened before February 1, 2016. In those cases, you'll need to request by mail.
Requesting Reports by Mail
To get a report by mail, follow these steps:
- Download and fill out a Traffic Collision Report Request form
- Include an \$11 check or money order payable to LAPD (no cash)
- Mail the form and payment to:
If you can't access the form, you can send a written request with this info:
- Your name, address, phone number and date of birth
- The report or incident number if you have it
- Names of people involved
- Date, time and location it happened
- License plate numbers and states of vehicles involved
- Your connection to the accident (like if you were involved or representing someone)
- A signed statement saying the info is true and correct
